She’s just twelve-years-old, but already Mikaila Ulmer’s new lemonade business venture is buzzing! The girl from Austin, Texas has signed an $11 million contract with Whole Foods, and her product Bee Sweet Lemonade will be sold on shelves across the country.
Bee Sweet Lemonade is a bottled lemonade beverage sweetened with honey and mixed with flaxseed and mint, and it’s based on a 70-year-old recipe that Mikaila’s great-grandmother had sent her. The young entrepreneur and bee educator donates a portion of her profits to organizations that help the bees. At the age of four, she was stung twice by the bugs and developed a fear, but after she and her family did some research, that fear quickly turned to fascination.
When asked how she beat out giants like Kraft, Coca-Cola, and Pepsi for shelf space, Mikaila shrugged and asked: “I don’t know? Do they make theirs with love?”
